myTennis is an app for passionate tennis players and tennis fans. It provides users with the latest news, live scores, and rankings, as well as background information from the international tennis world. It is the biggest app on German speaking market. Although the project has concluded, the journey is worth sharing for the valuable insights gained.
Team: A cross-functional collaboration within an agile Kanban framework
Duration: 8 months
I joined the team as a product and visual designer when the process of redesigning the app was already underway. The previous version exhibited numerous usability issues and appeared outdated within its market segment.
Problems:
1. The MyTennis app faced usability challenges. 2. It had an outdated design. 3. It failed to effectively engage its target audience.
Goals:The goals of the project were:1. To redesign the app to improve user experience.2. To modernize its look and feel.3. To enhance its overall functionality to better meet user needs and market demands.
The focus was on overcoming these specific challenges through a comprehensive redesign aimed at making the MyTennis app more user-friendly, visually appealing, and functionally robust.
In the MyTennis app project, I worked as a product designer. I was responsible for redesigning the user interface to enhance usability and modernize the app’s look and feel. I also developed eye-catching visuals to engage users and improve the overall aesthetic appeal of the app. Additionally, I created a landing page on Webflow to save time for developers, ensuring it effectively communicated the app’s features and benefits.
To achieve the result, I followed a structured design process. Initially, I conducted user research to understand the pain points and needs of our target audience. This involved analyzing user feedback and usage data to identify key areas for improvement.
I researched our real users by looking them up on social media to see what they post and who they are. I also spoke with the product manager, who is one of the real users, to understand his pain points. Additionally, I investigated their competitors. Based on this research, I created user personas for the app.
I then created wireframes and prototypes to map out the new user interface, focusing on enhancing usability and ensuring a seamless user experience.
I did several iterations and we worked closely with the Flutter developer following Kanban methodology.
Throughout the design process, I kept in mind the importance of a modern and engaging visual style. I developed several design concepts and iterated on them based on user testing and feedback. My goal was to create a visually appealing interface that would resonate with our users and keep them engaged.
Another goal was to design an appealing and informative landing page that effectively showcased the features and benefits of the tennis app to attract and engage potential users.
The tennis app lacked a compelling online presence and the landing page was outdated. The existing marketing materials were outdated and did not effectively communicate the value proposition of the app. I timely realized the problem and communicated it to the business. Stakeholders agreed that we needed new visuals. I aimed to create visually striking and informative visuals along with a well-designed landing page that would effectively promote the app and drive user engagement.
